Hackney Bumps: a grassroots community skatepark project

Hackney Bumps is an outdoor concrete skatepark in Clapton. Open to the public all year round, it’s in between Chatsworth Road and the River Lea.

Built in 1986 and effectively abandoned until we took over, it was rough, cracked and barely skateable.

Our group of local volunteers has been regenerating the Bumps since early 2019.

The Bumps is a skatepark for everyone.

Our team has been polishing the 35 year old surface by hand and repairing cracks to make the park safer and more accessible for everyone.

We have put over 3000 hours into the project so far…

We have built new 6ft & 3ft quarter pipes, a flatbank hip to wallride, a ledge and a flat rail.

We’re only just getting started…

We run free skateboarding lessons for local residents, providing instructors and the equipment needed to get people skating.
